The transformation of societies is an evolutionary process. Throughout the world societies have evolved with the course of the time. Social taboos are also associated to a society, as they are being practiced since many generations.
These social taboos are a great hurdle in way of progress of any society, while approaching towards development. A society is associated to these societal practices from long ago, and tries its best to keep these intact.
If we look in to demographic structure of our society, we will come to know that our society is an amalgam of different communities. Each community has its own practices which they think are must to be followed. These social taboos have the tendency to unbalance the life of an individual. Every now and then we come across much news that reflects the force of these social taboos.
These social taboos are affecting the society from different angles and are making t life more vulnerable. Proper access to health facilities is the need for every human being. These social taboos are a great hurdle in women health issues. Much news comes on the surface reflecting the deaths of women during pregnancy or in the end child labour.
The main matter behind these incidents is that, the families in rural areas never allow taking their women to hospitals for delivery cases, and consulting the unskilled birth attendants. Mostly the women lose their lives while delivering a child, and those who survive are facing severe bad health conditions. This is also a sort of violence, as the women are fully deprived of good health facilities.
On the other hand, these social taboos have been playing a vibrant role in restricting the progress of women education. Most of the females in the rural areas are not allowed to carry on their education, and very less women are enrolled in primary education.
But with the consistent global changes the importance of education has mounted up, and contributed in breaking the parameters of these old practices. Now females are more bent towards getting education, and are also getting positive support from their families. This emerging change has helped in eradicating an old social taboo, which was not allowing the women to get further education. These societal taboos are not confined to only these spheres of life, but are also linked with others segments of life. If we want to have a develop society, then we have to keep aside these societal practices, and think for the betterment of our future generations.
