I am heart broken and devastated on Saif Ali Khan’s statement. Only when things start to get better, either of the side makes a blunder and then we have to start all over again. Can we please get over the legacy of partition and the perks of 1947 and other conflicts? Can we not just mind our own businesses and stop criticizing each other?
What do film makers try to show, when they make films like Phantom. Isn’t it hatred and isn’t it extremism? I really don’t think Saif Ali Khan had to say things like “I don’t have faith in Pakistan, generally. Neither do I understand what their thought processes are. I have no problems against Pakistan and I won’t make a film that’s against the country. But now they have banned the film. We have always shared a very complicated relationship. If you tell uncomfortable truths, films gets banned. We keep banning each other’s films.” and also “Pakistani’s are anyway going to watch it and it will not effect the business of the movie.” for the publicity of his film! He also added: “The irony is that everybody is going to watch it anyway on pirated DVD’s. That’s what happen a lot in Pakistan.”
This is the truth, lets face it. What we can do is get it banned and promise not to watch it and not let our families watch it. I promise not to watch this movie because he has used hate speech and also because he has criticized my country. It’s my request to all those who are reading this please that please don’t watch movies and tell this world that Pakistani’s being one nation are united. We are not terrorist but we are fighting against terrorism and terrorist thoughts of people like Saif Ali Khan.
Its time for us to stand strong and stand together. Lets not say hate speech to Indian fellows. Lets prove it to the world that they dare not say anything to the motherland. Let the proverb “actions speak louder than words” prevail. Lets promise not to watch this film.
